John O'Reilly hoisted his beer and said, "Here's to spending the rest of me life, between the legs of me wife!"
That won him the top prize at the pub for the best toast of the night!

He went home and told his wife, Mary, "I won the prize for the Best toast of the night."
She said, "Aye, did ye now. And what was your toast?"
John said, "Here's to spending the rest of me life, sitting in church beside me wife."
"Oh, that is very nice indeed, John!" Mary said.

The next day, Mary ran into one of John's drinking buddies on the street corner.
The man chuckled leeringly and said, "John won the prize last night at the pub with a toast about you, Mary."
She said, "Aye, he told me, and I was a bit surprised myself.. You know, he's only been in there twice in the last four years. Once he fell asleep, and the other time I had to pull him by the ears to make him come."

There are numerous plans out there on the web, Someone posted one here at one time I think, although it may have been on a different board too, but the plans are all simple enough to construct, and can be modified for the parts available, and are intended to be able to be constructed in the third world, If you build them right, they can also be pulled by dogs, people or horses.

The problem is the television medium and how it has been abused and misused.

Survivorman/Les Stroud has as much to do with actual instruction for outdoor training and preparedness as James Bond Movies had to do with real Cold War events- next to zero corelation in spite of commonalities of details.- However when you factor in the amount of social engineering that occurs via the AD council ads, and your "news" local and national, you can understand why the lines blur for some. The issue of distinction is lost for many. I know a number of people who will buy junk they will never use and do not need because: "...it was such a good deal, I could not walk away from it...." or "it was discounted so much- how could I possibly go wrong..." never mind those people do not equate their lack of funds with the fact they bought stuff they should not have bought, but no matter where they learned those spending habits- they are reinforced by the media.

People who get arrested are shocked when they find out it is nothing like what they saw on TV and is therefore not all what they expected it would be- or should be.

No question it was a tragedy however, any attempt to try prevent such a thing from happening again will only result in a regulatory burden that YOU will have to carry- that is just the way the well intentioned politicians work.

We can have Shotguns with an 18 inch barrel, but if we use a pistol grip on one that has an 18 inch barrel, than it does not meet the minimum length of 26 inches.
A nice catch 22 Law.

Im still trying to get through my first lock. a mate brought his first set and was through a lock in the first 5 mins, then has gone on to run out of locks and picks all his friends hoses for fun.sometimes it takes him seconds and other times on the same lock can take 15 mins. Most criminals here as bill said goes straight through a door with a mash hammer in about 3 seconds.dent pullers are meant to work well or they just kick up a roof tile and go through the roof and in to the building using the man hole cover in the cieling. all of a 4 min job. always place locks on manhole covers when living in tiled roof homes.put on a floro vest and neighbours think their meant to be there.walk straight out the front door and into a waiting vehicle with arms full of goods.as also mentioned the idea of an e and e is to escape from environments with minimal gear that can be hidden on your person.mainly handcuff keys and zip tie cuttters work better for me. lock picks I havent much use for as there are faster ways to get through a door or most of the high security doors here are coded and require card entry.its just another skill i like to learn. you never know when it could come in handy.
